Kern County, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in the death of Marcio Ramon Mejia Sanchez, 21, of Delano, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 7:48 AM on Woollomes Avenue west of Browning Road, in the 31100 block.
Authorities said Sanchez was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on Woollomes Avenue at a high rate of speed when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle.
He reportedly struck a series of trees in an orchard on the north side of the road. Sanchez was ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kern County Coroner’s Office formally identified him following the crash.
Investigators are examining whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established in Sanchez’s memory to assist with funeral expenses.
Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the CHP Bakersfield office. The investigation remains ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
