Bakersfield, CA – In the early hours of Monday, April 14, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in the death of Lidia Gonzalez, 19, of Rosamond, according to KGET.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:46 AM in the area of Sierra Highway and Marie Avenue.
Authorities said Gonzalez was driving a gray Toyota Avalon northbound on Sierra Highway when, for reasons still under investigation, she made an unsafe turning movement and the vehicle departed the roadway.
The Avalon traveled across a dirt field before overturning, ejecting Gonzalez, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kern County Coroner’s Office formally identified her following the crash.
Investigators are examining whether driver impairment was a contributing factor in the collision. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the CHP Mojave Area Office. The investigation remains ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
