Fresno County, CA — The Fresno County coroner has identified 33-year-old Juan Rivera Zepeda, of Tulare, as the person who lost his life in a multi-vehicle crash which injured six more on Saturday, October 17, 2026, according to KSEE/KGPE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:30 PM near South Brawley Avenue and West Jensen Avenue, in a rural area of Fresno County west of Fresno.
According to investigations, a 2018 Ford Fusion, in which Rivera Zepeda was the right front passenger, was traveling southbound on Brawley Avenue before coming to a stop at the Jensen Avenue intersection at the posted stop sign.
Meanwhile, approaching the same intersection from opposite directions on Jensen Avenue were an eastbound Ford F-150 and a westbound Volkswagen GTI. The Fusion reportedly entered the intersection where it was struck by both the F-150 and the Volkswagen.
Rivera Zepeda was declared dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported the driver of the Fusion and its two rear passengers to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
All occupants of the other two vehicles — the male driver of the Volkswagen and the male driver and a female passenger from the F-150 — were also transported to CRMC for treatment of moderate injuries.
It is not believed that intoxication played a role in this fatal collision, according to authorities. This is an ongoing investigation.
Fresno Multi-Vehicle Accidents: Wrongful Death and Personal Injury Claims
California law operates under the principle of comparative negligence, which holds that responsibility for a fatal accident can be shared among those involved. Fault is not an all-or-nothing proposition. It is assigned based on crash site investigations and witness statements.
The Rivera Zepeda’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim with those found to be at fault in this collision. That may include the Volkswagen driver, the F-150 driver, or even his own driver. A wrongful death claim can provide compensation for damages such as funeral expenses and the loss of support and companionship provided by the deceased.
For the injured parties, if one of the others involved in the accident is found at least partially responsible for the crash that caused their injuries, they may have grounds for a personal injury claim. A personal injury claim can provide compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages associated with the accident. Any settlement may be reduced if the injured party is found to share responsibility for the crash, but that does not bar them from seeking partial compensation.
