Bakersfield, CA – In the early hours of Wednesday, June 25, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in the death of Andrian Ariza Nucup, 36, of San Bernardino, after his car became airborne and caught fire, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:05 AM on northbound Interstate 5 north of Highway 43.
Authorities said Nucup was driving a 2024 Subaru Impreza northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered into the dirt center median and struck a raised concrete barrier, causing it to become airborne. The vehicle launched approximately 150 feet before striking another concrete wall and catching fire. Nucup was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kern County Coroner’s Office formally identified him following the crash.
Investigators have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
