Fresno County, CA. – In the early hours of Sunday, December 15, 2025, a crash involving a rideshare vehicle claimed the life of 20-year-old Jose Reyes, according to KSEE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:30 AM at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and American Avenue.
Authorities said Reyes was driving a Chevrolet when it collided with a rideshare vehicle traveling eastbound on American Avenue through the intersection. The rideshare vehicle was operated by an adult male driver and was carrying three adult passengers at the time of the crash, according to CHP.
Investigators stated that the impact caused the rideshare vehicle to spin out of control and come to rest, blocking traffic lanes in the intersection. Reyes’ Chevrolet continued traveling northbound after the collision, crashed through a chain-link fence, and came to a stop approximately 100 feet away.
CHP said Reyes was found unresponsive inside his vehicle. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Fresno County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity.
The rideshare driver and all three passengers were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment of reported pain and injuries. Authorities said the injuries were non-life-threatening, but all occupants were assessed as part of standard post-collision medical procedures.
The California Highway Patrol indicated that alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to review evidence and determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
