Bakersfield, CA – On the evening of Sunday, September 21, 2025, a motorcycle and big rig collision left one man dead from major injuries, according to KGET.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 6:07 PM at the intersection of South Union Avenue and Welch Avenue in south Bakersfield.
Investigators said the motorcyclist traveled westbound from Welch Avenue as the big rig traveled northbound on South Union Avenue. The two vehicles collided in the intersection with violent force.
The motorcyclist sustained critical injuries in the crash. Emergency personnel transported him to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed his death shortly after arrival.
Authorities reported that the driver of the big rig stayed at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.
Officials said the Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the motorcyclist once they notify his family.
The Bakersfield Police Department continues to investigate the collision. Detectives are reviewing the circumstances of how both vehicles entered the intersection and what factors contributed to the fatal impact.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
