The Shafter Police Department reports that the accident took place around 12:45 PM near the intersection of Carver Street and Lerdo Highway.
Investigators said Diaz had been driving when her vehicle left the roadway for reasons still under investigation. The vehicle entered a nearby canal, where responding emergency crews found her in the water.

The Shafter Police Department has not released additional details and continues to investigate the incident.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
