Shafter, CA – On the evening of Saturday, March 29, 2025, Josefa Carter, 67, of Bakersfield, lost her life in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 65, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the collision occurred around 7:30 PM on Highway 65, south of Famoso Road.
Authorities say the crash involved multiple vehicles, including a black SUV, a white pickup truck, and a Toyota 4Runner. At least one vehicle overturned, and two individuals were ejected from their vehicle.
Carter, the driver of one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Following the crash, emergency responders closed Highway 65 in both directions. The California Department of Transportation was called to assist with the road closure at Famoso and Lerdo.
Shortly after the initial collision, one of the vehicles caught fire. Fire crews arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames.
Authorities have not released further details on the cause of the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
