Modesto, CA – The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified 59-year-old Angela Mora as the driver killed in a crash after her Tesla lost control, struck a tree, and caught fire, on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 25, 2025, according to The Modesto Bee.
The Modesto Police Department reports that the crash occurred around 12:25 PM on Washington Street near K Street.
Mora, 59, was driving westbound on K Street when she was involved in a collision at 6th Street but continued driving. As she approached 4th Street, she lost control, veered off the road, and crashed into a tree along the west curb line of Washington Street. The impact also caused her vehicle to strike a parked car before it caught fire.
Emergency responders arrived to find the Tesla fully engulfed in flames. Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash and seeing heavy smoke. One bystander attempted to reach Mora inside the vehicle but was forced back by the intense heat. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, but Mora was pronounced dead at the scene.
Because the vehicle was an electric Tesla, hazmat teams were deployed to test the residual runoff water for contamination. Fire crews also worked to contain the fire, which briefly spread to a nearby fence and threatened a home before being brought under control.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Modesto Police Department.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
