August 5, 2024, Fresno, CA: A bicyclist was tragically killed in a fatal hit-and-run accident that took place in Fresno on Saturday morning. According to information provided by Your Central Valley, the collision occurred at 5:55 a.m. on American Avenue just west of Chestnut Avenue.
An officer with Fresno County was traveling through the area when they noticed a person assisting an injured bicyclist on American Avenue. Another officer arrived on scene, where they discovered that the cyclist was traveling east on American when he was struck by a black Chevy pickup truck that approached him from behind. After the accident, the pickup truck left the scene.
Officers discovered a nearby surveillance camera, which showed that the accident happened around 4:54 a.m. The cyclist lay at the scene for a whole hour before he was discovered by law enforcement officials.
The cyclist, who has been identified as a man in his 60s, was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. However, he tragically died due to his injuries while there.
Police continue their investigation into the collision at this time.
