A man was killed in a tragic Christmas Day pedestrian accident in Bakersfield. According to information provided by KGET, the accident took place around 8:40 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 99 on the night of December 25, 2023.
California Highway Patrol confirmed that the accident happened on Highway 99 just north of Merle Haggard Drive after a 42-year-old Hyundai driver was involved in a collision with another vehicle. After the minor collision, the pedestrian male left his Hyundai and started to cross Highway 99. He was struck by an Acura that was traveling southbound with a driver who was unable to stop in time. Several other vehicles then struck the pedestrian.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately called to the scene to help. The 42-year-old male pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The 22-year-old driver of the Acura was moderately injured and transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment. Nobody else sustained injuries in the accident.
Southbound lanes of the highway were blocked for about three and a half hours as police investigated the scene. Their investigation into the collision continues at this time.
