Madera County, CA – On the morning of Friday, May 22, 2026, a collision resulted in the death of an 18-year-old Madera man in northeast Madera Acres, according to KSEE/KGPE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:30 AM at the intersection of Avenue 21 and Road 28 1/2.
Authorities said the 18-year-old was driving a white Ford Escape southbound on Road 28 1/2 and approaching the stop sign at Avenue 21 when a brown Jeep Cherokee traveling westbound on Avenue 21, which had no stop sign at the intersection, struck the left side of the Ford.
The force of the impact pushed the Ford off the roadway on the southwest corner of the intersection, where it crashed into a pistachio tree. Despite the immediate response of emergency personnel, the 18-year-old died from his injuries. The driver of the Jeep sustained injuries.
Investigators determined that neither driver was suspected of driving under the influence. The investigation remains ongoing.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
