Kern County FD Paramedic James Mascola Injured in Crash near Hwy 99, Sandrini Rd

Kern County, CA – On the morning of Tuesday, April 21, 2026, a single-vehicle collision left James Mascola, a Kern County Fire Department paramedic, hospitalized with major injuries, according to KGET.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place near the Sandrini Road off-ramp on northbound Highway 99.

Authorities said Mascola’s vehicle rolled over and pinned him inside. He was off duty at the time of the crash. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and worked to extricate him before he was transported for treatment of his major injuries.

The Kern County Firefighters Relief Foundation has launched a GoFundMe campaign on Mascola’s behalf. According to the campaign, Mascola is expected to undergo multiple surgeries and extensive rehabilitation, representing a significant financial burden. 

The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
