Tulare County, CA – On the morning of Monday, May 4, 2026, a collision between a Dodge SUV and a commercial flatbed truck resulted in the death of the Dodge’s driver, according to KSEE/KGPE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:37 AM at Avenue 216 and Highway 137.
Authorities said the driver of a Dodge Journey was traveling westbound on Avenue 216 when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection. A commercial flatbed truck traveling on Highway 137, which had no stop sign at the intersection, was struck on its side by the Dodge, causing the flatbed to overturn.
The driver of the Dodge died from his injuries. The flatbed truck driver sustained injuries and was transported to Kaweah Health Medical Center for treatment.
The identities of those involved had not been officially released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
