Bakersfield, CA – On the morning of Sunday, March 8, 2026, a single-vehicle motorcycle collision resulted in the death of Paul Anthony De Leon Jr., 29, of Bakersfield, according to KGET.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 8:25 AM at the intersection of South Mount Vernon Avenue and East Planz Road.
Authorities said De Leon was traveling southbound on Mount Vernon Avenue when he appears to have lost control of his motorcycle while attempting to navigate a curve in the roadway at East Planz Road. The motorcycle crashed through a gate before coming to rest at the scene.
De Leon was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Kern County Coroner’s Office formally identified him following the crash.
A preliminary investigation found that speed is believed to have been a factor in the collision. Investigators have not yet determined whether impairment was also a contributing factor.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established for De Leon’s family. The investigation remains ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a Wrongful Death Claim.
