Fresno County, CA – In the early hours of Sunday, March 25, 2026, a multi-vehicle collision resulted in the death of a 49-year-old Las Vegas man, according to KSEE/KGPE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 3:00 AM on Interstate 5 near Highway 33.
Authorities said the 49-year-old man was driving a gray Nissan Versa southbound on Interstate 5 when, for unknown reasons, he veered toward the right shoulder and struck the rear of a white Toyota Prius driven by a 41-year-old Los Angeles resident who had stopped on the shoulder with hazard lights activated to check their phone. The impact caused the Nissan to spin out of control, leaving it facing the wrong way on the interstate without headlights.
A 34-year-old Sacramento driver operating a black Toyota Sienna at approximately 70 miles per hour then struck the Nissan, which was stopped in the travel lanes. The Las Vegas man was pronounced dead at the scene.
No additional details regarding the identities of those involved had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
