Fresno County, CA – On the afternoon of Monday, February 2, 2026, Michael Williams, 72, of Auberry was killed in a single-vehicle crash after his car left the roadway and overturned, according to The Fresno Bee.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the collision occurred near the intersection of Auberry Road and Corlew Mountain Road, just south of Prather. Investigators say Williams’ vehicle veered off the roadway, struck large rocks, and overturned as a result of the impact.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Williams succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Authorities closed portions of the roadway while they conducted an on-scene investigation and cleared debris.
CHP officials stated that the crash remains under investigation and that alcohol impairment is suspected to have been a contributing factor.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
