Bakersfield, CA – On the morning of Sunday, October 5, 2025, Angel Barraza Garcia, 41, of Paramount, died, and another motorcyclist was hospitalized after a collision on the 5 Freeway near Grapevine Road, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 11:30 AM as two motorcyclists traveled southbound in the fast lane.
Investigators stated that an SUV in another lane appeared to have attempted to make a U-turn through a turn-thru at Grapevine. The SUV allegedly turned directly in front of the two riders. Both motorcyclists collided with the vehicle, leaving their riders with serious injuries.
Emergency crews halted all southbound traffic while CHP officers conducted their investigation. One rider was airlifted to Kern Medical with major injuries. The other, later identified as Garcia, was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.
Authorities said the people inside the SUV were uninjured. Factors leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
