Hwy 178 Crash with SUV Injures 2 Motorcyclists in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA – On the morning of Sunday, October 12, 2025, two motorcycle riders were critically injured in a collision involving an SUV on Highway 178, according to KGET.

The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the crash occurred around 9:38 AM in the 13300 block of Highway 178.

Authorities said a man and woman were riding a motorcycle eastbound when the driver of a Honda CR-V, also traveling eastbound, attempted a U-turn. The vehicles collided during the maneuver, leaving both riders with major injuries.

Emergency responders transported the victims to a nearby hospital for treatment, where they remained in critical condition.

Investigators stated that neither speed nor impairment is believed to have contributed to the crash. The Bakersfield Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact them.

Personal Injury Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should evidence reveal that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a Personal Injury Claim with the responsible party’s insurance, which can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
