Bakersfield, CA – In the early hours of Tuesday, September 30, 2025, a single-vehicle collision left one man dead and another injured, according to KGET, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash happened just before 3:15 AM on Highway 99 north of Panama Lane.
Investigators said a white Hyundai veered onto the east shoulder of the highway. The car crashed into a fence before striking two trees and coming to a stop.
The passenger sustained fatal injuries in the collision. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but they pronounced him dead at the scene.
The driver also suffered injuries in the crash. Responders transported him to Kern Medical for treatment.
Authorities have not released the identities of either the driver or the passenger. They said speed may have played a role in the crash.
Investigators are reviewing whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.
Officials closed the westbound Panama Lane on-ramp to northbound Highway 99 during the investigation and recovery efforts.
