Driver, 18, Injured in Crash with Kern County Deputy at Rosedale Hwy, Allen Rd in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA – On the evening of Wednesday, September 17, 2025, a collision involving a sheriff’s deputy injured an 18-year-old driver, according to KGET.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 7:25 PM at the intersection of Rosedale Highway and Allen Road.

Investigators said a Kern County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle traveled eastbound on Rosedale Highway while turning left onto northbound Allen Road with its emergency lights activated. The traffic signal for the patrol vehicle reportedly showed red.

At the same time, an 18-year-old motorist drove a 2010 Buick Lucerne westbound on Rosedale Highway at an estimated 50 to 60 MPH. Authorities noted the light turned yellow as the Buick entered the intersection.

The Buick and the sheriff’s patrol unit collided in the intersection. The impact caused significant damage but did not injure the deputy. Emergency personnel confirmed the 18-year-old driver suffered minor injuries.

Officials later explained that the deputy was responding to a report of a battery in the 2600 block of Allen Road, which involved a possible juvenile suspect armed with a knife and attacking an elderly man.

CHP continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash and asks anyone with information to come forward.

Personal Injury Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should evidence reveal that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a Personal Injury Claim with the responsible party’s insurance, which can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.

Failure to Yield

In California, as in other states, “failure to yield” means that you didn’t give the right of way to the right person at the right time. As such, failure to yield or stop is closely related to the “right of way.” When a motorist fails to yield, stop, or otherwise avoid an accident and causes a crash, he or she can be held liable for injuries and damages suffered by a victim.
