Fresno, CA – On the morning of Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Richard Gomez, 36, was killed when he was struck by a big rig while riding a motorized scooter, according to The Fresno Bee. 

The crash occurred around 7:00 AM at the intersection of Blythe and Gates avenues, located behind a WinCo Foods store. Officers arriving at the scene found Gomez deceased after being run over by the vehicle.

Police said a citizen followed the big rig after the collision and contacted authorities. Officers located and stopped the truck in the area of Ashlan Avenue and Golden State Boulevard. The driver remained at the scene after being stopped and cooperated with investigators.

The Fresno Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
