Fresno County, CA – The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified 31-year-old Louis Maciel of Coalinga as the man killed in a single-vehicle dirt bike crash on the evening of Sunday, April 13, 2025, according to KSEE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 8:00 PM near the intersection of Highway 33 and San Joaquin Avenue, in a rural section east of Coalinga.
Officials say Maciel was riding a 2006 Suzuki RM250 dirt bike westbound along the north shoulder of Jayne Avenue at approximately 50 MPH. As he crossed an agricultural access road near an orchard, he struck a guy wire attached to a power pole, causing him to be ejected from the bike. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency personnel responded quickly, but no life-saving measures were possible due to the severity of his injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the collision, and no additional injuries were reported.
CHP investigators say there is no indication that alcohol or drugs were contributing factors. The crash remains under investigation, including a review of the visibility and placement of the wire that was involved in the collision.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
