Sacramento County, CA – The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has named 65-year-old Elverta man Lee Vincent Giroux as the driver who suffered fatal injuries in a single-vehicle crash on the morning of Sunday, March 9, 2025, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 10:00 AM on Highway 99 near Elverta Road and Ernst Road.
Authorities said Giroux was driving on Highway 99 when his vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with a power pole. Emergency pronounced Giroux dead on-site.
The crash disrupted power to nearby properties and temporarily knocked Sacramento-area NPR station KQEI-FM (89.3) off the air. Other radio stations sharing the tower, including Capital Public Radio and KISS 107.9, remained operational. KQEI resumed broadcasting by 11:00 AM.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol’s North Sacramento office. Officials have not determined whether medical issues, speed, or other factors contributed to the incident.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
