Fresno, CA – Graciela Urena, 29, has been identified as the driver who lost her life in a single-vehicle collision on the afternoon of Monday, March 17, 2025, in which her 10-month-old son Alexander was also injured, according to ABC30.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 12:24 PM near Avenue 17 and Road 28 1/2.
Urena was driving with Alexander when her vehicle veered off the road and collided with a barbed wire fence and a wooden post. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported Alexander to Valley Children’s Hospital for evaluation, though the extent of his injuries remains unclear.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash and have not determined whether weather or road conditions contributed to the accident.
Graciela and her husband, Dante Urena, were members of the car club Team Valid. In the wake of the crash, fellow club members and other community members organized a fundraising event, offering food and raffle items.
Dante Urena expressed gratitude for the support from friends and the community, saying it reflected how much Graciela was loved. He has also set up a GoFundMe page to help provide for their family following this tragedy.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
