Fresno County, CA – In the early hours of Tuesday, February 25, 2025, a 40-year-old Reedley man was killed in a single-vehicle crash after his car veered off the road and struck a tree, according to KSEE with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place just after 3 AM on Academy Avenue, south of Bullard Avenue.
The crash was initially reported by a passerby who noticed a vehicle with its hazard lights flashing which had come to rest approximately 50 yards off the roadway.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a white Audi SUV that had drifted across the northbound lanes before crashing into a large tree on the side of the road. The driver was unresponsive inside the vehicle. Emergency responders, including paramedics and firefighters, were called to assist. Officers pulled the man from the wreckage and attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities later identified the deceased as a 40-year-old man from Reedley.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash but suspect that alcohol may have been a factor. The crash occurred in an area with limited lighting, and the combination of darkness and fog could have impacted the driver’s ability to navigate the roadway safely.
