Fresno County, CA – The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified Jesus Cuevas, 40, of Reedley as the man killed in a single-vehicle crash after his car veered off the road and struck a tree in the early hours of Tuesday, February 25, 2025, according to KSEE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place just after 3 AM on Academy Avenue, south of Bullard Avenue.
A passerby first noticed the crash after seeing a vehicle with its hazard lights flashing approximately 50 yards off the roadway. When officers arrived, they found a white Audi SUV that had crossed the northbound lanes before colliding with a large tree. Cuevas was unresponsive inside the wreckage.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and firefighters, arrived at the scene. Officers pulled Cuevas from the vehicle and attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash, though they suspect alcohol may have been a factor. They are also considering the possibility that limited lighting and foggy conditions may have affected Cuevas’ ability to navigate the roadway safely.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident and urges anyone with additional information to contact authorities.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
