Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Highway 41 in Fresno

Pedestrians are incredibly prevalent across the city of Fresno. Especially on major roads and at intersections, pedestrians are traveling to many of their favorite destinations. Fresno is home to a variety of parks, museums, and wonderful places to eat, which means that pedestrian accidents are bound to happen in the city.

Because pedestrians have few protections from harm in the event of an accident, they are likely to become seriously injured and even killed when a collision with a vehicle occurs. Families may experience a vast financial strain when they lose somebody closest to them in a pedestrian hit-and-run accident. Along with the grief, this can leave them in a difficult position with many questions.

Support for Families Following Fatal Fresno Pedestrian Accidents

Facing the aftermath of a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident is not easy for families. These claims can be incredibly complex. If a hit-and-run driver is not apprehended by police, families may need to move forward with a claim through uninsured motorist coverage. If the driver is found, you as the family can file a wrongful death lawsuit on your loved one’s behalf.

Some of the damages that may be available for you in a wrongful death claim include the following:

  • Medical expenses that your loved one incurred before passing
  • Lost income within a household
  • Pain and suffering
  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of consortium or companionship

There are certain deadlines that you must meet in a California wrongful death claim. In California, you have two years from the time of your loved one’s passing to file a claim before you are barred from doing so. It is crucial that you work with an attorney as soon as possible to retain your rights.
