Camp Lejeune Lawsuit Could Include Thyroid Cancer in 2024

If you or a loved one were at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days between 1954 and 1987 and have suffered from or died from Thyroid Cancer, please visit our comprehensive page on the Lawsuit or fill out our intake form today.

As of February 1, 2024, Thyroid Cancer is NOT a qualifying diagnosis, but it might be shortly.

The ATSDR Report – January 31, 2024:

On January 31, 2024, the AP reported that CDC’s Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) is expected to release a new report which has assessed cancer risks of those exposed to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune.

A cancer which “could” end up being added to the litigation is Thyroid Cancer (and possibly others).

The study pointed out people exposed to the contaminated water had an elevated risk of multiple diseases, including:

  • male breast cancer
  • all myeloid cancers, including a type of blood cancer called polycythemia vera
  • myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative syndromes
  • cancers of the esophagus, voice box, thyroid and soft tissue
  • marginal B-cell lymphoma
  • some types of lung cancer
  • female ductal breast cancer
  • oral cancers
  • thyroid cancer
  • acute myelogenous leukemia
  • disorders of the blood
  • B-cell lymphomas a
  • nonpapillary transitional cell bladder carcinoma

Will Thyroid Cancer be Added?

The new ATSDR report may be a significant development in this lawsuit. It is very possible that Thyroid Cancer is added. Male breast cancer and leukemia could be added as well, possibly others.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the cause of Thyroid Cancer is not widely understood, however,  it is thought to often be caused by environmental factors. According to the American Cancer Society, Thyroid Cancer is often survivable when discovered and treated in time.
