Three Injured in Pedestrian Accident at 21st Street and H Street in Bakersfield
On Thursday, three paradegoers were injured in a pedestrian accident involving a suspected drunk driver in Bakersfield. The accident, according to information provided by KGET, occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of 21st Street and H Street on the evening of December 7, 2023.
Bakersfield Police arrived on scene in the early evening hours, where they received a report that multiple people were struck at the scheduled Bakersfield Christmas Parade. Officers were patrolling the area and heard a truck accelerating and three paradegoer pedestrians being struck by the truck.
Several responders, including paramedics, were dispatched to the scene. The three pedestrians, identified as men of ages 21, 42, and 77, sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized.
The driver of the truck, identified as an adult male, was suspected of driving while intoxicated. He was taken into custody and charged on scene with felony driving under the influence.
Police rerouted the parade and delayed it by approximately 45 minutes.
