Two people sustained injuries in a car accident that took place in Porterville on Friday. According to information provided by Your Central Valley, the accident happened around 11 p.m. on Highway 65 just north of Highway 190 on the night of December 1, 2023.
California Highway Patrol responded to the scene, where they found that two vehicles collided head-on into each other. An investigation showed that a 2007 Honda Civic was traveling in the wrong direction of the highway, slamming into a 2019 Dodge Challenger that was traveling south at the time. The driver of the Dodge attempted to avoid the accident but was unable to do so, which led to extensive damages in both vehicles.
Paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene following the collision. The driver of the Dodge was hospitalized with moderate injuries while the driver of the Honda sustained major injuries and was airlifted to the hospital by medical helicopter. The two victims were identified as adult males.
A portion of the road was blocked following the accident until police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident continues.
