Motorcycle Accident Dangers On Hwy 1 Near Vandenberg Space Force Base

Motorcyclists on Highway 1 are put in danger when drivers allow themselves to become careless and reckless. Motorists may glance down at a cellphone after a text notification and start to veer out of their lanes. They may also be going too fast and suddenly come upon a Highway 1 curve and lose control.

Cars, SUVs, and big rigs can easily end up in the paths of motorcycles. These sudden incidents leave riders little time or room to avoid a devastating collision. Riders may suffer traumatic and life-threatening injuries all due to a driver’s lack of focus.

A motorcyclist was struck and killed after a collision with an SUV in western Santa Barbara County Thursday morning. KSBY-TV reports the collision occurred on Highway 1 near Firefighter Road, just outside Vandenberg Space Force Base on July 29, 2022.

The California Highway Patrol was sent to the scene sometime after 7:40 a.m. They determined that a 21-year-old woman from Santa Maria driving a GMC Yukon northbound crossed into the southbound lanes to strike a motorcycle head-on. It was not immediately known why the driver crossed into oncoming traffic.

The impact knocked the rider off the motorcycle. The victim died at the scene. The motorcycle was thrown into the next lane where it was hit by another vehicle.

California Highway Patrol investigators continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. They do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role.

Support for Families After a Deadly Santa Barbara County Motorcycle Accident

Families who lose a loved one in a tragic motorcycle accident may risk a financial disaster when faced with the bills that often follow a tragedy. Families can receive the bills for a funeral and burial and also be charged for emergency response and medical care provided on the scene.

A wrongful death claim filed against an at-fault driver’s car insurance provider can ask for assistance with these expenses. This civil claim also demands help for the family in the future when close relatives will have to continue life without the emotional and financial support the deceased had always provided.
