Pedestrians and cyclists are owed a special “duty of care” from motorists in California. Drivers are responsible for looking out for pedestrians and cyclists and for slowing down when they see them. This is a legal responsibility that exists no matter the time of day and no matter where the pedestrian or cyclist is traveling.
When drivers neglect this basic safety measure, those traveling down the street, in a bike path, or along a sidewalk can suffer devastating injuries in a collision. Motorists can also become hit-and-run suspects when they neglect their duty to stop and help any victim they cause harm.
Fresno Pedestrian Hurt in Hit-and-Run Accident
A man was rushed to the hospital after getting struck by a vehicle in western Fresno early Wednesday morning. ABC30-TV reported the accident took place around 3:30 a.m. on the Clinton Avenue Overpass at Highway 99 on December 8, 2021.
Fresno Police say the victim was walking his bike in the eastbound lanes when he was struck. The driver did not remain on the scene to help the pedestrian. Another driver spotted the man and stopped to assist him. The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
Fresno police investigators continue to seek the hit-and-run driver behind the accident but they have not released a description of the driver or the vehicle involved at this time.
Earning Financial Help for Pedestrian Accident Victims in Fresno
Pedestrians can be struck along busy streets in Fresno and in short order, have their lives turned around. A long hospital stay and months of rehabilitation may be necessary. Healing should be the focus of any victim of an accident.
Unfortunately, the high price of medical care and even monthly cost-of-living expenses can start to pile up. These bills will arrive as victims may still be trying to recover enough to return to work. They may have missed weeks of paychecks and have no savings left to keep creditors off their backs.
You may find yourself in this difficult situation, facing bills for an injury that wasn’t your fault. You can receive compensation to help with your bills even in cases where a hit-and-run driver is never identified. If the at-fault driver’s insurance coverage can’t be called on, you are permitted to file a claim on your own car insurance policy’s uninsured motorist coverage. If you don’t have your own car insurance policy, you may be covered by a family member’s policy.
