Drivers on long stretches of Kings County highways can be tempted to pass slower traffic, but extreme caution must be taken. Motorists can elevate their speed to make their pass while also having limited visibility of what’s ahead. This careless move can put every driver and passenger in the vicinity at great risk of a crash.
Reckless drivers paying too little attention to traffic or deciding to proceed blindly can put more than just themselves in harm’s way. Those motorists can veer over into the paths of vehicles they are trying to pass or end up in the path of oncoming traffic and have no room to steer clear of a dangerous collision.
Three People Hospitalized After Collision in Kings County
Multiple victims were rushed to the hospital after a head-on collision in Kings County Wednesday morning. The Hanford Sentinel reports the accident took place around 8:55 a.m. along Highway 41 south of Lemoore on June 9, 2021.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene. They say a white Ford pickup was traveling northbound at an estimated 80 mph on the highway near the Nevada Avenue turnoff. They believe the truck’s driver was attempting to pass two vehicles when it struck a southbound Hyundai Elantra.
The driver of the Hyundai was severely injured and had to be flown to a local hospital. The pickup driver and a passenger also suffered injuries and were taken by ambulance to the hospital.
California Highway Patrol investigators have not released the conditions of the victims or if any charges will be filed in the accident.
Seeking Financial Help After a Kings County Accident
Drivers can usually account for a careless move by another motorist. They can often anticipate a mistake and steer clear of a collision. However, this extra reaction time isn’t always available when a driver attempting to make an ill-advised pass is suddenly right in front of another vehicle.
Victims can get seriously hurt and be left to make a difficult and expensive recovery from injuries like broken bones, head trauma, and spine and back fractures. These injuries can take months to heal and each and every cost along the way should be covered by an at-fault driver’s insurance provider.
To ensure insurance companies know exactly what’s expected of them, victims are permitted to file a claim for damages. This civil claim is meant to help the victim pay for all emergency room and hospital expenses now and the expense of any care needed in the future. A claim can also list the lost wages a victim misses out on while losing time at work due to an injury. Emotional anguish for the victim and his or her family can also factor into an insurance settlement.
