Accidents Involving DUI Drivers In Fresno

Cars often share the road with big-rig trucks and other types of large transport vehicles and that can lead to dangerous collisions across Fresno. The obvious size and weight difference make for an especially hazardous risk for drivers and passengers in cars. The shape of trucks can also increase that risk. 18-wheelers often sit higher than other vehicles leaving room for cars to end up under the frames.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) found that in a single year 5,096 large trucks and buses were involved in fatal crashes nationwide. Those frightening crashes have also been on the rise in recent years. From 2009 to 2018 fatal accidents involving trucks rose 45%.

Multi-Vehicle Accident Involving Semi-Truck in Fresno

Several people had to go to the hospital after a chain-reaction accident in Central Fresno Sunday evening. KFSN-TV reported the accident happened around 8 p.m. near Palm Avenue and Belmont Avenue on February 21, 2021.

The Fresno Police say a semi-truck was turning when a car behind it slowed down. The car was then struck from behind by an SUV and pushed into the big rig.

Police say everyone inside the car was taken to Community Regional Medical Center. Their conditions haven’t been released. The truck driver stayed on the scene and was found not to be at fault. Investigators arrested the driver of the SUV on DUI charges.

Support for Semi-Truck Accident Victims in Fresno

Drivers and their passengers who experience a collision with a large truck can end up with devastating injuries and a long recovery ahead.

While they are trying to heal and get back to a normal life, victims shouldn’t have to face the extreme costs of their medical care. They also should be freed of worry over their normal cost-of-living bills like rent and credit card payments, especially as some victims may be missing valuable time at work with their injury.

Victims or their family members can file a claim for damages against the at-fault driver’s insurance company to get relief from these costs. That driver may be facing criminal charges over their role in the accident, but that doesn’t affect a victim’s right to move forward with their civil claim. The criminal trial can unfold separately and won’t affect a victim’s rights to seek compensation.
