Motorcyclists do everything they can to make sure other motorists notice them on the road and yet careless drivers still often fail to take the time to look properly before they make a move. That lack of attention can quickly put a rider in harm’s way.
Intersections can be especially hazardous for someone on a motorcycle. In a single year, half of all motorcycle accidents take place at intersections according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Drivers attempting a turn are a big part of the problem. For some reason, motorists can fail to spot a motorcycle coming straight at them and make their turn right in front of the rider.
The entire length of a car, truck, or SUV can suddenly be a long, solid obstacle directly ahead of a motorcyclist. A dangerous impact can be unavoidable.
Fresno County Motorcycle Accident
A woman was injured when her motorcycle crashed into the side of a car in Fresno County near Selma early Friday morning. KFSN-TV reported the accident happened at the intersection of Manning Avenue and Leonard Avenue around 4 a.m. on September 11, 2020.
The California Highway Patrol found that the motorcyclist was traveling on Manning Avenue when the driver of a Dodge Charger coming from Leonard Avenue pulled out too far in the road in front of the rider.
The woman on the motorcycle struck the Charger and was sent tumbling into the roadway. She was rushed to the hospital with major injuries.
Compensation For Injured Motorcyclists
Tragic collisions on motorcycles don’t have to involve high speeds to cause severe injuries. The vulnerable motorcyclist rides in the open air without the benefit of a metal frame for protection like someone in a car. Riders also can’t wear seat belts and even the slightest of impacts can send them off their bikes and leave them down on the pavement.
With little more than a helmet and clothing as protection, the injuries are often serious. A rider can suffer traumatic brain injury (TBI) leading to a severe concussion and brain damage. Broken bones in the extremities and even the neck and face are common. Just the contact with rough surfaces can cause severe skin damage with road rash that can require skin grafts.
The recovery from these wounds can be painful and very expensive. The motorcyclist may not even be able to return to work for weeks or months after an accident. The rider wasn’t at fault for the collision that caused these hardships and shouldn’t have to face the consequences alone.
Filing a claim for damages may be the only way to force the driver found responsible for the crash to help pay for the victim’s physical, emotional, and financial losses. A local motorcycle accident attorney can help you take on that driver’s insurance company to get the compensation you’ll need to make a full recovery.
