An example of this happened Wednesday, April 8, 2020, when a semi-truck was traveling northbound on Highway 99 in Merced just north of Childs Avenue in the far right lane. At the same time, a sedan was traveling in the left lane and when the driver of sedan changed lanes, the truck driver lost control and veered off the roadway.
A man and a woman were in an encampment on the side of the road and were struck by the truck. The man died and the woman was injured. According to the California Highway Patrol, it’s unknown which driver was to blame for the truck driver losing control, and the accident is still under investigation.
