Truck Accident

The Rainy Day Truck Accident: More Common Than You’d Think

It’s raining, but you’re busy and can’t let it slow you down. You get into your car and hit the roads. The problem is, so does everyone else, which only compounds the danger. Now you’re driving on slick roads with possibly thousands of other drivers. Some of those drivers have deadlines to meet and may not be as careful as they should be. Big rigs are especially dangerous, simply due to the nature of the vehicle. Trucks are heavy, requiring air brakes, and tires can sometimes be worn or repaired too often, which could cause a truck accident.

Truck Accident in Waiting

No matter how careful you are, you can’t control what’s going on around you. Road surfaces are slicker due to the buildup of oil and grease combined with the water from the rain. The slippery roads reduce tire traction and can lead to skidding or hydroplaning. Visibility is usually poor, so roadway hazards, such as fallen tree branches or flooding, are harder to see.

Road Conditions

Central Valley in California, which includes Visalia, Bakersfield and Glendale, is a highly populated area. According to Value Penguin, a research and analysis company, Highway 99 is the most dangerous road in the country. Highway 99 covers 424 miles from the Grapevine through Red Bluff and winds through Fresno. Largely agricultural, the region feeds the country and has a high volume of big-rig trucks. The density of vehicles paired with dangerous conditions and unpredictable drivers can lead to a traffic infrastructure that is more susceptible to crashes. Truck accidents may be more common than you think.

Wherever you go, be cautious and aware of the vehicles on the road. Here are some examples of truck accident reports.

  • Grape truck rolls over in Fresno, August 2018.
  • Turkey truck overturns in Merced, injuring the driver and killing the cargo, August 2018.
  • Milk truck veers off of the road in Lemoore and the truck driver is air lifted to the hospital, August 2018.
  • Truck accident in Madera shuts down lanes to the freeway, July 2018.
  • Semi-truck crash overturns and catches fire in Fresno, July 2018.
