The Siberian Husky was originally bred as a working dog for pulling sleds in Northeast Asia. Although still used for that purpose, they’re primarily house dogs now. For extra warmth, the breed has a double coat that comes in a wide variety of colors. It’s not unusual to see a Siberian Husky with symmetrical facial markings and glistening Paul Newman-like blue eyes either. Given the hard work that they’re famous for, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a Siberian Husky will need considerable exercise. They might stand as high as 24 inches at the shoulder and weigh as much as 60 pounds. As these dogs are escape artists, that’s going to call for a yard with a high fence that extends to the ground.
Why Siberian Husky Attacks Might Happen?
As a breed, the Siberian Husky is an intensely loyal to its master and the human family that it lives with. The breed is highly predatory though, so without proper training there’s always a danger of one taking off after a smaller dog or animal. To try and prevent this, periodically inspect your fencing, and if you’re dog is on a leash, maintain control. Remember, these dogs are escape artists. Siberian Huskies need exercise. Therefore, a Husky might also attack if it’s bored, startled or provoked. They’re also intense defenders of their homes and the humans that they live with.
Take notice that if you’re a meticulous housekeeper, these dogs shed heavily before summer and winter. Statistics show the Siberian Husky as the fifth most likely breed to bite a human. Its bite can go as high as 320 pounds of pressure per square inch. That’s substantially more than that of a Pit Bull. Damage from a mauling can range from serious to debilitating to fatal. These dogs are involved in more fatal attacks than German Shepherds. They should always be closely supervised when around children.
Siberian Husky Attacks
In the United Kingdom, a Siberian Husky attacked a 39-year-old hairdresser for 45 minutes while she was babysitting her friend’s children. She needed nearly 12 surgeries to repair her permanently damaged arm. One of the children she was sitting for finally stabbed the dog. She was then able to call police who shot the dog at the scene.
In Minnesota, an infant who was strapped in a car seat that was placed on a bed was attacked and killed by a Siberian Husky. To get to the child, the dog most likely jumped on the bed to commit the attack. In Illinois, an infant who was born three weeks earlier was killed by a Siberian Husky when she began crying on a bed while her mother was in another doom. The dog pulled the child off of the bed by the head and into the room where her mother was. The death may have been accidental.
