Gilroy is a small place, but it sees a steady flow of traffic.
Our town is a crossroads for many Bay Area travelers and for those taking road trips along the coastline. Tourists mix with local traffic and create some scary rush hours on local roads like Highway 101 and Santa Teresa Boulevard.
The goal is always to allow folks to get where they need to be and then get home safe. But that safe end to the day takes effort on everyone’s part.
To get reckless drivers to focus on this goal, Maison Law of Gilroy called for a study of recent car accident data. Seeing the consequences of local traffic mistakes can make us wary of heading back out on local roads. But the raw data may also convince careless drivers to put their cell phones away and slow down.
Car Accident Hazards on Gilroy Roads
The California Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) recorded 138 accidents involving injury on Gilroy roads in 2025.
That number was down from 2024 figures, when there were 183 serious accidents recorded on local streets and highways.
Each accident had the potential to harm more than one person, and potentially people in every car involved. Sadly, there was always the chance of a fatal accident that meant someone would never make it home.
In 2025, Gilroy documented 195 injured victims in accidents, along with two tragic deaths. That was down from 2024 figures when there were 251 people injured in local accidents and at least 2 deaths.
The Most Common Causes of Accidents in Gilroy
California’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) found that speeding was involved in at least 28% of Gilroy collisions over a five-year period.
The reasons include problems with the motorist’s ability to drive and with the driver’s judgment.
How Many Alcohol-Involved Accidents in Gilroy?
TIMS finds that there are, on average, around 28 accidents involving injuries blamed on alcohol each year in Gilroy.
Even with all the eye-opening commercials and the DUI checkpoints around, people still choose to drink alcohol or take drugs and get behind the wheel. It’s a choice that can quickly cause the driver to lose their license. It can also lead to devastating accidents that leave victims with traumatic injuries and families without their loved ones.
It certainly continues to be a problem in Gilroy, and 2025 was an especially dangerous year for drunk driving. In 2025, there were 40 alcohol-involved accidents in the city. That was almost double the number of similar accidents in 2024.
A Safer Year for Gilroy Motorists, Pedestrians, and Cyclists
It’s hoped that the rest of this year and next year will bring a brighter outlook for those who travel Gilroy roads each day.
If you are in an accident caused by a careless driver and you suffer a serious injury, it’s a good indicator that you should contact a Gilroy car accident lawyer. A lawyer can investigate your accident and make sure you aren’t blamed for a crash you didn’t cause. Your lawyer then demands everything you need to make a full recovery. This is often much more than you could win by taking on car insurance companies yourself.
Maison Law offers a free case consultation to all Santa Clara County accident victims. It’s a great way to determine what you should earn for your injury, and how to force a car insurance company to turn that support over. There’s no obligation to you, but if you decide we can earn you more in a settlement, you don’t have to struggle to pay a lawyer. We only get paid if we win your case for you. Then our attorney’s fee comes out of the check an insurance company must write for your family.
