Pedestrian Fatally Struck by 2 Vehicles Including Police Car near Mooney Blvd, Beech Ave in Visalia

Visalia, CA — In the early morning of Sunday, November 1, 2026, a male pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a police car and another vehicle, according to KSEE/KGPE.

The Visalia Police Department states that the first collision took place just after 4 AM on Mooney Boulevard, near Beech Avenue, near Visalia Mall.

According to investigators, the first vehicle striking the man caused him to drop his belongings, which scattered across Mooney Boulevard. He fell to the roadway and was lying there when a Visalia police car also struck him.

The officer, who was reportedly unaware of the collision involving the first vehicle, immediately initiated a traffic break and attempted to provide the pedestrian with medical care.

Emergency responders transported the pedestrian to Kaweah Health Medical Center, where, despite the lifesaving efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.

Further details have not been released as to the identity of the deceased, a description of the first vehicle to strike him, whether or not the first vehicle fled the scene, and whether this is being treated as a hit-and-run collision. This is an ongoing investigation.

Visalia Pedestrian Crashes and Wrongful Death Claims

When a loved one loses their life through another party’s negligence, their surviving family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, which can provide compensation for funeral expenses and the support and companionship the deceased provided.

Because California law operates under the principle of comparative negligence, liability is not an all-or-nothing proposition. Fault in an accident can be shared among multiple parties. That means both the first vehicle and the police car, as well as the pedestrian himself, could bear some of the liability in his death, depending on the degree of negligence each may have shown.

However, there are tighter deadlines when seeking compensation after an accident with a government entity, like the Visalia police department, and the details released so far leave open the possibility that the first vehicle may have fled the scene. The victim’s family may find working with a wrongful death attorney especially helpful due to these challenges.
