Bakersfield, CA — On Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, 2026, a 12-year-old girl named Faith was struck and killed, and three others with her were injured, according to KGET.
At approximately 6:36 PM, the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a report of the fatal collision at the intersection of Harris Road and Marin Street near Challenger Park.
Emergency responders arriving at the crash site found Faith, another child, and two adults who had sustained injuries in the collision. All four received transportation to a nearby hospital for treatment, where, tragically, Faith succumbed to her injuries.
According to witnesses, children and families had been trick-or-treating at the time of the fatal accident.
Investigators determined that a red sedan had been traveling eastbound on Harris and collided with the four pedestrians as they were crossing at an unmarked crosswalk at the Marin Street intersection.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. It has not yet been determined whether excessive speed, alcohol, or drug use may have contributed to the accident.
Faith’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money in order to lay her to rest.
Bakersfield PD requests that any members of the public who may have information regarding this tragic accident come forward. This is an ongoing investigation.
Bakersfield Pedestrian Accidents: Wrongful Death and Personal Injury Claims
California law requires drivers to exercise a special duty of care toward pedestrians due to their greater vulnerability to injury in a collision. Drivers are expected to monitor their speed and be ready to stop suddenly in areas where pedestrians, especially minors, may be present, such as near parks or during holiday festivities.
Even if no criminal charges are filed, the driver may still be found to have acted negligently in this collision. Faith’s family might have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, which can provide compensation for damages including funeral expenses and pain of having lost the companionship of their child.
The other pedestrians injured alongside Faith may have grounds for personal injury claims. A personal injury claim can help to recover economic damages, such as medical expenses and lost wages, with consideration for non-economic damages like pain and suffering as well.
