Multi-Vehicle Crash near US 101, Tully Rd Kills 1, Injures 2 in San Jose

San Jose, CA — On the morning of Saturday, October 10, 2026, what developed into a multi-vehicle collision resulted in the death of a 36-year-old San Jose man and injuries to two others, according to Bay City News, with additional details provided by CHP Fatal.

California Highway Patrol accident logs show the accident was initially reported at 5:32 AM as a single-vehicle crash blocking lane #1 near the US 101 South and Tully Road West off-ramp.

The disabled vehicle was identified as a red Toyota sedan in the southbound lanes. However, multiple other vehicles swiftly became involved in a chain-reaction collision, including a gray Honda Civic and a white Ford F-150.

Debris from the crash spread across southbound lanes and even flew into the northbound lanes, where it struck a white Tesla Model 3, injuring the driver. As of 5:47 AM, accident logs show that all southbound lanes of US 101 had been closed.

Both the Toyota and its driver, who had left his vehicle and was standing outside of it at the time, were struck by the Honda and the Ford. The Toyota driver, identified only as a 36-year-old San Jose man, was declared dead at the scene.

The Honda driver reportedly sustained major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Ford driver did not sustain any injuries but was trapped within the vehicle, and fire crews were called to help free him.

By 8:48 AM, the wreckage of the crash had been cleared, and all lanes opened.

At this time, investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs to have been contributing factors in the crash. CHP asks that any member of the public with information regarding the accident contact their San Jose Area office. This is an ongoing investigation.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents in San Jose: Personal Injury and Wrongful Death Claims

Complex multi-vehicle collisions like this one require investigators to carefully analyze evidence to determine fault, which can be allocated among multiple parties since California law operates under the principle of comparative negligence. Under comparative negligence, fault is not an all-or-nothing prospect, as it is in some other states.

Even if a driver is found partially at fault in the collision, there may still be grounds to seek compensation, although any settlement received would be reduced in proportion to their share of liability.

The family of the 36-year-old San Jose man may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim, which can help compensate for damages such as funeral expenses and the loss of companionship and support from the deceased.

The Honda and Tesla drivers may have grounds for personal injury claims, which can help to cover the costs of medical expenses, lost wages, and property damage, with consideration for the victim’s pain and suffering as well.
