Livermore, CA – On the evening of Saturday, August 15, 2026, a hit-and-run left a 64-year-old bicyclist critically injured and led to the arrest of Brian Callaway, 44, of Modesto, according to KRON.
The Livermore Police Department reports that the incident was reported around 9:54 PM on southbound Isabel Avenue just south of the Stanley Boulevard connector.
Authorities said officers found the bicyclist lying unconscious in the bike lane after Callaway allegedly crashed into him and fled the scene without stopping. He sustained more than a dozen fractures and a traumatic brain injury.
According to a statement from his family and attorneys, he was placed in a medically induced coma upon arrival at the hospital and remains in critical care, facing what they described as an unimaginably difficult recovery complicated by the brain injury.
Livermore Police said information from the public helped identify Callaway and his vehicle. He was arrested at his Modesto home three weeks after the crash and has been charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury, with a sentencing enhancement for the victim’s vulnerability. He was out of custody as of Tuesday morning.
