August 5, 2026, Snelling, CA: On Wednesday morning, an officer was involved in an injury big rig accident on a highway in Snelling.
According to ABC30, the accident happened on Wednesday morning on Highway 59 near the Turlock Road area. Police confirmed that an officer was headed southbound in a pickup truck while a big rig was headed north on the highway. The officer started to make a U-turn in the roadway, but the big rig did not stop in time, T-boning the side of the pickup. The impact caused the pickup to careen toward the trees on the side of the highway.
Firefighters had to extricate the officer from his vehicle. He was airlifted to a hospital with several serious injuries. He sustained several broken bones in the accident. The driver of the big rig was not hurt.
Northbound lanes of traffic were blocked for several hours as police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released. At this time, the investigation into the accident continues.
