Bakersfield, CA – On the evening of Sunday, June 21, 2026, a pedestrian collision resulted in the death of Pauline Terrazas, 67, according to KBAK.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 9:15 PM in the 600 block of Brundage Lane.
Authorities said Terrazas was crossing Brundage Lane northbound within an unmarked crosswalk when she was struck by an eastbound white Ram pickup truck. She was transported to Kern Medical, where she was pronounced dead at 9:49 PM.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Driver impairment and excessive speed do not appear to have been factors in the collision.
Terrazas’s son, Sal Soliz, said she was searching for his younger brother, who struggles with mental health, on Father’s Day evening when the crash occurred. It was something she had done many times before.
A GoFundMe has been established to help the family cover funeral, memorial, and related expenses. The investigation remains ongoing.
Bakersfield Pedestrian Accidents and Wrongful Death Claims
California law requires drivers to exercise an extra duty of care toward pedestrians, remaining vigilant and prepared to stop even when pedestrians are crossing outside of marked crosswalks. When a pedestrian collision results in a fatality, investigators with California law enforcement examine factors such as visibility, speed, and driver attentiveness to determine the cause and whether the driver may bear liability.
Regardless of the findings, Terrazas’s family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death claim can provide the family with compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, loss of consortium, and other damages related to the fatal accident.
