Fresno County, CA – On the morning of Monday, June 22, 2026, a head-on collision between a big rig and a pickup truck resulted in the death of the pickup driver near Chateau Fresno, according to KSEE/KGPE, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:24 AM on Manning Avenue west of Grantland Avenue.
Authorities said a white big rig with a refrigerated trailer was traveling eastbound on Manning Avenue when it collided head-on with a green Ford pickup truck. Investigators said the pickup may have been traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lane prior to the crash, with the big rig driver taking evasive action in an attempt to avoid the collision.
The force of the impact sent the big rig off the roadway into a vineyard approximately 20 feet north of Manning Avenue. The pickup overturned, ejecting its driver onto the roadway, before catching fire and becoming fully engulfed in flames. CAL FIRE responded from Caruthers and extinguished the fire.
The pickup driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The big rig driver, the sole occupant of the truck, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center.
County Roads was contacted to assist with road closures at Manning Avenue at Chateau Fresno Avenue and Grantland Avenue before the roadway was reopened shortly after 7:00 AM. A heavy-duty tow was requested for the big rig and 53-foot trailer.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Wrongful Death Claim
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling. Filing a wrongful death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses.
Comparative Negligence
California Law upholds the concept of comparative negligence, which allows more than one party to share blame in a personal injury accident. Injured victims may have their compensation reduced if they are found partially responsible.
