Mini-Van Rollover into Canal near Hwy 162, Aguas Frias Rd Injures 6 in Butte County

Butte County, CA – On the morning of Friday, June 19, 2026, a rollover collision sent a minivan into an irrigation canal, resulting in all six occupants being hospitalized, according to FOX40.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:42 AM at the intersection of Highway 162 and Aguas Frias Road.

Authorities said the minivan, carrying two adults and four youths, overturned into an irrigation canal south of the highway. The second vehicle involved, a BMW sedan, was disabled in the eastbound lanes.

All six occupants of the minivan were rescued from the partially submerged vehicle by passing motorists and good Samaritans before emergency personnel arrived. Two of the youths were unresponsive and not breathing when first responders arrived, with bystanders already performing CPR.

A responding officer joined citizens in resuscitation efforts alongside other emergency personnel, and both youths were successfully resuscitated.

All six occupants were transported to local hospitals, some by helicopter and some by ambulance.

No additional details regarding the identities of those involved or the circumstances of the collision had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a personal injury claim.

Passenger Liability

A driver’s liability coverage extends to those inside their vehicle as well as outside. In many cases, those passengers are someone who knows the driver personally. So, when a passenger is injured and their driver is found liable, they may feel reluctant to file a claim against the driver’s insurance.

In many cases, however, a personal injury claim may be required for an insurer to offer a fair settlement that covers the injured party’s medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the accident. A personal injury attorney can facilitate this process and, as a neutral third party, help navigate any emotional complexities that may arise.
