UPDATE: Carlos Angeles, 19, of Capitola, ID’ed in Fatal Crash at SR-152, Casserly Rd in Santa Cruz County

Santa Cruz County, CA – On the evening of Sunday, June 14, 2026, a two-vehicle collision resulted in the deaths of Carlos Angeles, 19, of Capitola, and a 17-year-old girl, and left two others hospitalized with major injuries, according to KSBW.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 8:47 PM at State Route 152 and Casserly Road.

Authorities said a 19-year-old Watsonville man was driving a white 2011 Infiniti G37 westbound on Highway 152 when, for reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles collided at the intersection.

Angeles was driving a gray 2026 Toyota Camry eastbound through the intersection with the 17-year-old girl as his passenger. Both Angeles and his passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified Angeles following his death and stated that the identity of the 17-year-old would not be released.

The driver of the Infiniti sustained major injuries and was transported to Natividad Medical Center. His passenger also sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Valley Medical Center. The Infiniti driver was arrested.

Alcohol and drugs are being investigated as possible factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

Ongoing Investigations

Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
