UPDATE: Motorcyclist Michael Hayden Mollenauer, 36, of Bodfish, Killed in Big Rig Crash at Garces Hwy (155), Keysville Rd

Kern County, CA – On the afternoon of Friday, June 5, 2026, a head-on collision on Highway 155 resulted in the death of Michael Hayden Mollenauer, 36, of Bodfish, according to KBAK.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:05 PM on Highway 155 north of Keysville Road.

Authorities said Mollenauer was riding a 2006 Honda 600RR motorcycle northbound on Highway 155 at an unknown rate of speed when, as he approached a southbound 2014 Freightliner flatbed truck traveling at approximately 45 to 50 miles per hour, the motorcycle reportedly crossed over the solid double yellow lines into the southbound lane and collided with the left front side of the truck.

Mollenauer was ejected from the motorcycle in a northeasterly direction onto the roadway, and the motorcycle also traveled northeasterly before coming to rest on the roadway.

He was transported to Kern Valley Hospital, where he died from his injuries. The Kern County Coroner’s Office formally identified him following his death.

Investigators have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.

Ongoing Investigations

Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
